Education is one of the most powerful tools for breaking the cycle of poverty and creating opportunities for a brighter future. At the Bauchi State Orphans and Vulnerable Children Agency (BASOVCA), we believe that every child—regardless of their background or circumstances—has the right to quality, inclusive, and equitable education.
For many orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), access to education is often disrupted by poverty, family instability, displacement, illness, disability, insecurity, or the loss of parents and caregivers. These challenges can prevent children from enrolling in school, attending regularly, or completing their education.
BASOVCA works to eliminate these barriers by ensuring that vulnerable children not only gain access to education but are also supported to remain in school, succeed academically, and acquire practical life skills that prepare them for productive adulthood.

Our Key Interventions
School Enrolment and Retention
Many vulnerable children are unable to attend school due to financial hardship or family circumstances. BASOVCA identifies out-of-school children and works with parents, caregivers, schools, and community leaders to facilitate their enrolment.
Our retention initiatives ensure that children remain in school by addressing challenges that may affect regular attendance, learning, and academic progression.
Educational Materials Support
Learning becomes more effective when children have access to basic educational resources.
Subject to programme availability and partnerships, BASOVCA supports eligible children with essential learning materials such as:
- School bags

These resources reduce financial pressure on caregivers and help children participate confidently in classroom activities.
Vocational and Skills Development
Not every child follows the same educational pathway. For older adolescents and school leavers, BASOVCA provides opportunities to develop vocational and technical skills that improve employability and economic independence.
